Free Camping Blanket Crochet Pattern
Summer is finally here and I am excited to kick off summer with this free camping blanket crochet pattern.
Camping is one of my favourite things to do during the summertime – so much so I always book well in advance to secure the best spots every year!
Last year, I ventured on my first backcountry camping adventure which changed the way I thought of hiking and camping. It was quite an experience to work and hike off to a place so beautiful to rest for the night. There was a thrill to being far without signal but my pride and gratitude for myself and body trumped all the fear away as we laid in the tent, read, and looked off to the unreal backdrop of a majestic mountain.
I thought of that night every day since and so excited to venture out and experience it all over again this season. That night inspired me to design this blanket. The rows of campsites and orange tents – our tent is orange – reminds me of my favourite camping memories.
Construction of the crocheted camping blanket
This is rated an intermediate crochet shawl pattern due to the colorwork involved as they may require more attention to attend to. However, the pattern consists entirely of single crochet stitches and an easy to follow beginner friendly colorwork repetition.
The camping blanket is sized to be a lapghan perfect for spending time lounging near the campfire and enjoying nights under the summer sky.

Yarn
For this crochet project I used Lion Brand Yarns Basic Stitch Anti Pilling Yarn in the colors Black, Ecru, and Pumpkin. Anti-pilling yarn is ideal for projects that have a lot of usage to withstand washes and wear and tear like blankets without pilling. This yarn is 100% acrylic which is also a cost effective choice for larger projects.

Pattern notes:
- This pattern is made using US terminology.
- The pattern is written in rows. Turn after each row.
- The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows are not considered as a stitch in the final stitch count.
- The yardage for this pattern is based on the amount of yarn used after dividing the larger skeins into smaller individual color balls for colorwork. Yarn in this pattern was not carried over, rather I made multiple balls of yarn to accommodate the color changes. This creates a clean reversible look.
- This pattern calls for repeats. During these sections, repeat the respective section until the end of the row. Note, sometimes, the entire repeat section will not be completed.
