Inspiration

The Arnica Sweater’s inspiration is Arnica Lake located in Alberta. We first went to the lake in search of some larches during larch season. The hike was as beautiful and satisfying as the destination! The lake’s surrounded by banks of gold trees and a majestic mountain framing its far end.

About the design

I made the Arnica Sweater using Lion Brand Yarn’s Touch of Cashmere. My vision for the sweater was cozy but stylish and this yarn seemed perfect for the project!

The design’s made up of 5 parts: 2 panels, 2 sleeves, and the neckline. I am a fan of implementing the least amount of sewing as possible!

For this design I wanted to try and find a way to create the wrap around effect without needed to sew too much and I thankfully found a way!

The panels swing around at the sides (as opposed to front and back panels) and sewn together on the shoulders. Easy peasy!! The only sewing left after this are the sleeves. Isn’t that just great?!

Do you have the right yarn for this project? Make sure to check out my post Best Yarn for Crochet Sweaters to help you choose the perfect yarn for this design.

Altering the pattern

This crochet sweater goes over an inner garment, long fitted sleeves (rolled over at the cuff) and a turtle neck finishing. There are some ways to alter the pattern if needed.

To make the armhole deeper, add more rows to the end of the chest split and the same amount of rows to the widest part of the sleeves.

The sleeves can be shortened or lengthened by lessening or adding on to the number of rows at the end part of the sleeve portion.

To make the turtle neck shorter, make less ribbed rows.
